Courtyard House

Located just a few meters from the beach, Courtyard House lies within a small private seaside community, where the design carefully balances openness with privacy. The brief expressed a desire for a home that felt completely free—where one could even swim naked in the pool if desired.

In response, the house is shaped in an L, and together with the garage and a boundary wall, it forms a sheltered courtyard around the pool. This arrangement creates both intimacy and a sense of spaciousness, shielding the interior from neighbors while maintaining a visual connection to the surrounding landscape. Wooden slats filter the morning light and reduce heat gain in the bedrooms, while the living area opens entirely to the outdoors, dissolving boundaries between inside and out. High clerestory openings promote cross-ventilation, letting warm air escape and drawing in cooler breezes, a simple, passive strategy suited to the tropical climate.
